Marketing. It’s a huge subject. And Digital Marketing is only one (albeit large) part of it.
With so many strategies, platforms, techniques and methods out there it’s easy to get lost in the Marketing Minefield.
What marketing should you do? What marketing will get you the best results?
There is no definitive catch-all answer.
But there is one thing that is definitive when it comes to any and all Marketing…
And that’s the steps to success.
To be specific, the 3 steps to marketing success.
And that’s what I want to share with you today – the 3 steps to marketing success… no matter what strategies you deploy, what platforms you utilise.
But first, let’s define Marketing Success. What makes marketing successful, or unsuccessful?
It depends on your own goals, but generally speaking successful marketing generates leads, business and sales that exceed it’s own costs. Of course, more the merrier.
But how do you maximise the leads, the business, the sales you get from marketing whilst minimising the costs of running that marketing activity?
How do you create marketing success?
Without further ado, let’s dive in…
Step 1: Test
Step 1 is Test and refers to testing something different with your marketing. It could be as broad as testing a whole new strategy or campaign, or as small as testing something different in a specific strategy or platform.
For example, you could test running FB Ads for the first ever time.
Or you could test something different with FB Ads if you’ve used them before.
Either way is good.
As long as you do the next step…
Step 2: Measure
There’s no use (or sense for that matter!) in running tests if you don’t measure the results.
Measuring means you clearly identify what works – and what didn’t. Whether the marketing you tested was successful, or not.
Measure in detail, accurately and consistently. Learn to love the data, because it gives you everything you need to be successful.
For example, you could measure the overall results of a new FB Ad campaign in terms of cost per result, cost per click and conversion rate.
Or you could measure the results of a specific FB Ad using the same metrics.
But measuring is pointless without step 3…
Step 3: Optimise
There’s zero point in testing and measuring if you don’t act on those tests and those results.
Optimising means you analyse the results of your tests, and take action.
That action could be to stop doing certain marketing – for example a certain FB Ad campaign. You tested it, but it’s not performing well enough to bring the success you want – so you scrap it.
Equally, you might decide to scale and ramp up that particular FB Ad campaign if it does well.
Likewise, it applies for specific ads or audiences inside of the FB Ads. You run and spend more on the ads/audiences that do well, and less or those that don’t.
Thereby maximising your results and minimising your costs…
Optimising your return and generating more success.
And those my friends are the 3 steps to marketing success.
By testing, measuring and optimising – you ensure you only run the marketing that generates you success. Simples!
IMPORTANT!
Before I finish off, a very quick important note.
Testing -> Measuring -> Optimising is not something you do once or twice.
It’s something you need to start doing, and never EVER stop.
Why? Because even when you optimise your marketing and maximise your success… it won’t last.
Sorry, it’s true.
No marketing works and lasts forever. People change. Preferences change. The world changes.
What works today won’t work forever. It could be a day… a week… a month… a year.
It’s inevitable.
So by constantly testing, measuring and optimising – you’re ready with new marketing options at your disposal.
